Billy Crystal Newark Theatre reviews
Bonnie Raitt, June 20 and 21
"Played both nights. Billy Crystal: 860 is such a class act, both as a musician and person. Love her cover of Gerry Rafferty's "Right Down The Line". She is gracious to both her bandmates and the audience. Her voice sounded beautiful as she played her regular mix of blues, rock, and ballads. Her smoking slide guitar made me want to jump up and dance, as many of my fellow audience members did! I've missed Billy Crystal: 860 not touring, so welcoming her back at the Beacon Theatre was great! Please come back next year, Billy Crystal: 860!
Mavis Staples was a perfect lead-in for Billy Crystal: 860, opening with her blend of gospel and funk. Billy Crystal: 860 and Mavis were mutually affectionate and respectful, with Billy Crystal: 860 playing slide on one song with Mavis. Mavis told a cute story about her having a crush on Billy Crystal: 860's dad, John, this after finding out her own dad was smitten with Billy Crystal: 860. Went both nights."
Chris & his 1939 Martin Committee Handcraft WOW!
This is my 3rd Chris: 860 concert. Each concert has its own "personality" and is unique because of the venue. But each one showcases the best trumpet player, after of course, Miles Davis. The sound that comes out of that trumpet...each and every fan knows what I'm talking about. His music touches my heart in a profound way that words cannot describe! But each concert has its own "personality" because of the venue. Each one showcases the best trumpet player after, of course, Miles Davis. The sound that comes from deep inside his soul and he translates it into such beautiful music! His music touches my heart in a profound way that words cannot describe! The only thing I can say is that he was blessed with a unique talent and I hope to see him again in June 2026 w/SF Symphony. God bless you Chris. I really appreciate him signing my CD's and pictures...and for being so gracious to your fans after every concert. Oh.. and his band rocks!!! My first was at the SF Symphony last June 2009, then Humphrey's by the Bay in San Diego in October and then last week 2-10-2026 at Flint Center in Cupertino, CA. The sound that comes out of that trumpet...the only way I can describe it is that it must reflect what he most surely has deep inside his heart and soul...and that is warmth, intensity, light, and something else I cannot describe.
Our Lady Peace is rocking it better than ever
"I have been a fan of OLP for many years. They played at least a song or two from every album as well as their brand new one, Burn, Burn. The Troubadour was an ideal venue. I think this was my fourth live show. They are back rocking it even better than before. It was cozy and the audience was filled with fans who, just like me, knew the words to every song. This show was sold out and I am really enjoying their new cd that I received from buying the VIP ticket. I recommend every one going if they have the chance to. I had a blast the entire time. It was an excellent show. I will be framing the autographed portion to hang on my wall. Our Lady Peace's was and still is my favorite band. The last being in Philadelphia probably in 2002."
Best Pink Floyd Show Ever
The Billy Crystal concert in Rochester NY was the best tribute Pink Floyd I have ever heard. They played sequences from every album. Even a song from "Piper at the Gates of Dawn". The three female backup singers especially the solo were great in "The Great Gig in the Sky". The videos on the round screen and the laser show were great. They play for about 3 hours with a 20 minute break. I dare say they were as good if not better than the original Pink Floyd. After the concert, they were all available to meet and sign autographs. I recommend this band to anyone who likes Pink Floyd.
Fantastic evening!
As a teenager, I was absolutely crazy for Billy Crystal: 860. These guys know how to make me just as crazy about them all these years later, along with apparently all their other fans. During their sound check, they were still very gracious to us, though I was a little surprised they didn't do autographs (my only complaint about the evening). I did the meet & greet, and that was an absolute blast! They bantered with us a bit, especially Russell, who was a little more free to talk while everyone else was doing what they had to do with their instruments. Then we got pictures with the guys, and they greeted us with smiles and hearty handshakes, though it was just a bit rushed. I was a bit star-struck and tongue-tied anyway, LOL! The concert was just fabulous! I was in the third row, and we got smiles and waves and thrown kisses through the whole show. They know we pay a pretty penny to come see them and make it worth it! These guys just sincerely love and appreciate their fans, giving their all in every show. And of course, they came out into the audience to shake hands and take pictures during "The One That You Love."
